Privacy screens and canopy weights in detail
Privacy screen is sold by the roll and judged by the weave. These are knitted polyethylene mesh, hemmed and grommeted along both long edges, in six by fifty foot and four by twenty five foot rolls. The mesh passes air, which is the whole reason to use fabric instead of board — a solid panel on a chain link fence becomes a sail in the first storm.
Boxwood panels solve the other half of the same problem. Twelve interlocking squares clip edge to edge and cover a wall, a balcony rail or the ugly end of a fence in an afternoon, with no watering and no trimming. They sit well behind a climbing wall too, where the green takes the industrial look off a plywood panel.
Canopy weights are the least interesting purchase in the yard and the one people regret skipping. The bags fill with water or sand on site, wrap the leg of a pop-up and are rated as a set — eighty eight pounds across four bags for a light canopy, a hundred and seventy five for a larger one in open ground.
What these are made of
- Knitted polyethylene mesh, hemmed with brass grommets, UV stabilized
- Rolls in 6 x 50 ft and 4 x 25 ft, green or black
- Boxwood panels, twelve to a set, interlocking plastic backing
- Weight bags filled on site with water or sand, 88 lb and 175 lb per set of four
Fitting it
- Run zip ties through every grommet, not every second one
- Leave the top edge a finger's width below the fence rail so wind spills over
- Clip hedge panels from one corner and work along a single row
- Fill canopy bags on the grass where they will sit, never carry them full
Screen rolls are seasonal. Please check the listing for stock before the weather turns, because spring sizes can run weeks behind.

Questions about this shelf
Will a privacy screen survive a windy season?
If the mesh is tied at every grommet and the fence is sound, yes. Screen fails where ties are spaced out and the fabric is left to flap.
Can the boxwood panels stay out all winter?
They are UV stabilized plastic and do not mind cold. Snow load on a horizontal run is the thing to avoid.
Water or sand in the weight bags?
Water is easier to fill and empty; sand holds more per bag and does not freeze. The rating on the card assumes the bag is full.
