A full four by eight sheet needs more holds than most people expect. Thirty-six is the count that fills it properly: a main line up the middle, a second easier line to one side, and footholds dense enough that a small climber is never stretching blind.
It also splits well. Two children, two panels, eighteen holds each — or one tall wall now and a traverse board later from the leftovers. Buying the large box once is consistently cheaper per hold than buying small boxes twice.
Weather resistance is the same grade as the outdoor sets: non-skid molded texture, UV stabilized pigment, two hundred and thirty pounds rated load per hold. Whichever way you split the box, both halves can live outside.
